Mercer Health Right is currently located in the old Mercer Count Health Center Building in Green Valley, moved from its original loccation in the basement of the Bluefield Union Mission. It is a free health clinic which is geared toward people who "slip through the cracks" of Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare and other services.
Among the services offered by the clinic are wellness screenings; basic medical care, including prescription of non-narcotic medications; screenings for sexually transmitted diseases and patient education for such chronic problems as diabetes.
Because of its open-door policies, Health Right receives almost no federal or state money, and only a token amount of local funding. It operates almost entirely on the charity of others.
Through the past year, Yeager members have donated bandages and tape, over-the-counter drugs (many of the clinic's patients cannot even afford these), crutches, canes, walkers and similar durable supplies.
The clinic is a valuable part of the Bluefield area support network, and has even been a boon to members of Yeager in times of extreme need. Yeager proudly supports the clinic and its work.
